Our River

The Ribble Catchment

It is unusual in that the northern half of the Catchment is primarily rural whilst the southern half is mainly industrial. It is also unusual that it has both significant salmon and sea trout runs whereas many rivers have only one of these. For many years it featured in the top six nationally for both salmon and sea trout. Like many rivers salmon runs have decreased but sea trout are still very plentiful. In its lower reaches the Ribble is notable for coarse fishing. Fishery interests are looked after by the Ribble Fisheries Consultative Association (RFCA) and all members are automatically enrolled by the club as members of the RFCA. This gives access to the web cameras on the Catchment installed by the RFCA plus their regular Newsletters.
